About

As a Maine native I grew up outdoors. We love our change of seasons in Maine and all that each season has to offer.  For me it was my horses, canoeing, time upta camp, ( ya that’s what we call it), fishing, ice fishing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and best of all time around the campfire.

I got my BS in Animal Science from Umass Amherst, spending time working for equine vets and dressage instructors in between semesters. I head to NJ to work with Standardbred Race horses. While there the vets encouraged me to start a diagnostic lab for them- so I did. Over the next 16 years I bred and trained labs, ran and judged retriever hunts tests, and guided at local upland hunting preserves. I rode my horses in mountains all over but eventually decided it was time to come home to Maine. I missed the outdoors, lakes, rivers, woods.

I needed a way to earn a living though. I decided that offering an opportunity to combine lots of activities in one setting would be the way to go. After 2 years of looking I found the perfect piece of property. It had 400 acres, ponds, fields, hardwoods, cedar swamp, second growth. It was located close to town but off the main road. It was centrally located in the middle of the state- what more could I ask for?

Today Silverton Sporting Ranch offers cabins, sporting clays course, 5 stand, shotgun instruction, paintball, pheasant hunting, guide service for deer, duck, goose, partridge, woodcock and turkey, event hosting, corporate outings, meeting facilities and so much more!

I am a member of the Board of Directors of Women of the Maine Outdoors  and the Kennebec Valley Tourism Council.

I hope you will come and enjoy our cabins and all Maine has to offer!

Cheers,
Denise
